For My Future Students

For my future students I think setting up a blog would a great idea, now I know how to do it. I would incorporate blogging into my classes by making it a fun activity once or twice a week. I'd let my students start off by blogging about something they have experienced that weekend or about something new/different/exciting (just to get the ball rolling). After that I would have a blog of my own that they could comment on. My blog would be about learning objectives for that week so the students can see what we are learning & comment on it. There comments can be about anything, from looking forward to learning it or something they may not be comfortable with. Also I would have learning questions that they will have to try and answer at the end of the week so I could monitor how much they learned. I could motor my own teaching level/success. The main objective of having it in the order I do is because some students may not want to blog if it’s about boring old school, so to get their brains engaged with blogging about something they did may be the trick.

  1. I think you are smart to get the students blogging about things they care about first, and then move on to more academic pursuits.

  2. I like the idea of putting what you're teaching on the blog beforehand. Parents will like that!

  3. I agree with Emma Kate that putting the lessons up ahead of time is a good idea. It will be good for you to know what students are excited about learning and what you may need to spend more time on if they do not understand it.

  4. I think it is a great idea to post questions about what y'all have learned in class so you can see how much they are actually paying attention and grasping. It is also a good idea so you can see if you are doing a good job teaching.

  5. I think it would great just in case someone forgot or was sick that day they could check it out online. What other questions would you ask them? Would you take their blogs as grade as well?

  6. This is a great way for parents to see their student's journey throughout the year and to also see what is going on in the classroom. Great idea!

  8. I agree that if they can also blog about something personal it would draw more interest. Good thinking!

  9. I think letting students demonstrate their creativity by blogging is an excellent idea. It will not only improve on their writing but it will also get their creative juices going so they can continue on when it comes to more school-related topics.

  10. I think that it's a great idea to put your lessons online before you actually teach them so that the students can see what they will be learning that week. It's also great for the parents so that they can make sure their child is doing the work required for the class. It's also cool to let the students write about whatever they want for their first post so that they can become used to how a blog works!

  11. Putting lesson plans on your blog in advance would be helpful to both parents and students. It would help students see what is going on and how it is all connected. I like your idea of letting students start blogging first about their weekend or what they like to do. It shines a positive light on blogging before you start getting academic with it.

  13. I really like the idea of having learning objectives on the blog. I also like the idea of you having a blog that students can interact with. Also, this gives the students a good way to ask questions and either have you answer, or a peer respond the question.

  14. With the students starting off with things that they care about will get them to be more open to new things and not be scared to post their feelings online

  15. I like that at first you would let students have fun with blogging to get them hooked then incorporate the questions and learning.
